So guys, the Winx Club body type/art style is again being targeted by parents who think that the body type is unhealthy for little girls to see and a dad wants the dolls to be taken off shelves at a retailer called Myer.
This is how I personally feel about the subject, "Does anyone realize the dolls are simply based off of the show's characters and art style? The art style of the Winx Club cartoon makes the characters skinny and thin. It's just an art style, it's not an accurate representation of how your daughter should look. If your daughter likes the dolls and you're worried about how she will be effected by the thin body, can't you explain to her that normal girls don't look like that? That she's based off a cartoon? Not real life."
What do you guys think of this story? Do you think the Winx body type is a negative influence on little girls?

For me it's the opposite; I have a medical problem where my body burns energy more than it can consume (I eat a lot but stay thin) and a lanky body. As a kid a was bullied for looking anorexic and had many medical test to see why I have abnormally long appendages and high metabolism. I was jealous of fat people and hated my body. When i saw Winx Club I thought they looked good and realized they have my body type, it was a relief that someone thought that was pretty enough to draw. I never saw Barbies as real looking dolls because the proportions were off like most dolls made, but Winx Club dolls look the most realistic to me. I just hate that some people think all skinny people have an eating disorder and should not look that way, it's discrimination. Size should not matter, what Winx Club's internal message should speak for itself.
ReplyDeleteWhat the.. what was he thinking? Oh a skinny doll better ban it from a store? Why Winx? Monster High and Ever After High are just as skinny? What the actual fairydust is happening?
ReplyDeleteLet's just go to his house and see what fans of ''anorexic and skinny fairies'' can do! Let's sign a petition for that! This made me so MAD!
I know a mum who didn't let her child watch Winx because of the same reason, but not with the dolls, it was because of the animation. She didn't like the cut-out cloths and the skinny bodies. She thinks it "makes her child too fancy". What's that supposed to mean? That her child wants to wear those clothes? That her child will show off her body with her schoolmates/friends? This is just animation, not real life. If they were watching a movie with cut-out clothes, and showing they inner body, then that makes sense, but ANIMATION?
DeleteI meant "movie" as in real actors, not animated movies.
DeleteThe box he's holding in one of those photos says "stop selling stick thin dolls". Then why is he/are they only targeting Winx?
ReplyDeleteI know right, what's with all the Winx judging and hating?
DeleteWhy targeting Winx? They're are other dolls besides winx like monster high, ever aftre high, and bratz (Not trying to be mean about the other dolls) but why winx? Wat did winx did that made him think they're bad influence to little girls? I know cuz they're skinny but has he watched the show...? The show is amazing and shows the power of friendship NOT abt skinny girls. Has he thought it over abt this? Like wat happens if one day where he lives a little girl wants a winx doll but can't get it cuz they won't restock in shelf cuz of him? My mom has watched winx with me and loves it! I was really mad when i read this.......
